My Yoga Journey
Humble beginnings
My name is Marta and I am a passionate Hatha Yoga practitioner and Thai Yoga Massage therapist. I started my yoga journey in 2010, when I took an ’Introduction to Yoga’ course at Morley College in London. At the time I thought I was looking for a practice that allows me to escape the challenges of everyday life by combining together the physical benefits and mental health balance. But I to be completely honest I was searching for myself.
For several years I practicing yoga on and off. In that time, I was learning different styles, trying various schools and teachers in order to find the style that suits me best.
Over time, my yoga practice has allowed me to realise how big of an impact physical activity can have on somebody’s well-being. I was able to see the benefits of the activities, not only resulting in restoring mobility but also having positive effect on a person’s mental state and overall improvement of a life. Practising yoga every day allows me to discover first-hand the benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle.
Eventually, Yoga become something more than just a physical practice. Yoga became my lifestyle and a practice of self-improvement.
Yoga Teacher Training
In March 2018 I have decided to undertake the intense Yoga Teacher Training at Siddhi Yoga School in Goa, India.
During my time in India, I have learned about the history and etymology of Yoga with “8 Limb Of Yoga”, Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and Hatha Yoga Pradipica. I have deepened my personal practice and gained the skills to become a teacher based on Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, along with Hatha Yoga and slower Yin Yoga. As a result of this course I now hold a 200Hrs Yoga Teacher Certificate in various yoga styles and yoga alignment and I have registered as a member of Yoga Alliance Professional.
But the learning never stopped.
I have continue searching new courses and improving my knowledge as a teacher.
I have completed Rehab Yoga Level 1 and Level 2 as a CPD courses. The main emphasis of these courses was on alignment and how to recognise different body types and their limitations. How to work with the body, not against it.
My yoga training continues. I am taking new courses all the time, reading books, doing my own practice and taking inspiration from other yogis, to grow and become a better teacher myself.
My Yoga
People often ask me what my style of yoga is. I can honestly say that every practice of yoga is personal, therefore my style of yoga is as unique as everyone else’s.
My practice changes daily, depending on my mood, energy level and needs. Sometimes I do energizing Vinyasa, other days balancing Hatha or soothing Yin. Some days I know I need to let go and just allow myself to reset with Restorative yoga. I try to incorporate meditation and mindfulness into everyday practice.
I believe my style of yoga consist of all these styles and it develops and changes with me, when I grow as a person.
I used to love good dynamic Vinyasa session. Sweatier than better. I was very much focused on the physical aspect of yoga. But with time my practice softened and I become more in tune with my body and its needs. My practice now consists on breath and movement meditation, used together with meditation and pranayama as a tool to achieve homeostasis – state of peace.
